Why draws you to the sport?
It is a really free sport, there are so many dimensions to it, waves, freestyle, wakestyle you could never get bored. It is a great sport to travel and see the world, there are so many places to kite.
How did you get into the sport?
I was teaching windsurfing for Edge Watersports in Devon and managed to get a few kite lessons, since then I haven't looked back.
Nicky RuddDo you kite with any other girls?
Not as often as I would like, but we usually all hook up when we are travelling, and occasionally free ride together at the competitions. I have just started to do girls kite clinics where I teach at Bracklesham Boardriders.
Why would you encourage other girls to get into the sport and any advice on how they can go about it?
Because it is a great sport and despite appearances you don't need to be really strong.
There are more girls getting into it all the time it is not just guys at the beach anymore. The best way to learn is from a recognised kite school check out the BKSA website, and there are more girls clinics out there for girls who are already kiting. I am starting to run girls beginner courses at http://www.brackleshamboardriders.co.uk so check it out!
